The birth of a smart production line stems not only from the precise placement of every piece of precision equipment but also from deep expertise in system integration. Currently, a sheet metal intelligent manufacturing line, fully integrated and implemented by LAG Machine Tools (Shanghai) Co., Ltd., is advancing steadily at a customer site.
This line integrates high-power laser cutting, robotic automatic bending, and intelligent warehousing, fully covering blanking, forming, and storage. Through a central information management system (MES), it achieves plant-wide data connectivity and intelligent scheduling. Through on-site documentation, we present how this Industry 4.0-ready digital production line moves step by step from blueprint to reality.
【On-Site Focus: Three Core Building Blocks of Smart Manufacturing】
1. Robotic Intelligent Sorting Laser Cutting Unit
As the core blanking station of the line, this unit integrates automatic loading, high-precision cutting, and intelligent sorting, supporting high-speed processing of various materials and adapting to high-mix, flexible production.
Equipped with the BIPODE octopus multifunctional gripper, it flexibly switches between sorting and palletizing. The integrated automatic loading/unloading synchronizes material feeding and scrap removal, saving floor space and improving efficiency. With one-click operation via the PC central control system, it seamlessly connects to the automatic material library and AGV/AMR, enabling unmanned operation from cutting to transport. Meanwhile, the digital twin system provides real-time visual monitoring of processing status, while proprietary software ensures data security and stable operation – delivering a complete solution for intelligent, continuous, and reliable sheet metal processing.

2. Robotic Automatic Bending Unit
Through synchronized operation of a six-axis industrial robot and a press brake, this unit achieves fully automatic bending. Leveraging offline programming and force-sensing compensation technology, it ensures high precision and consistency for complex workpieces, meeting the demands of fast changeover and high-quality production.
No reteaching required for changeover – first piece is a perfect part. That is the core capability of this unit. Its closed-loop control algorithm based on "synchronous following + dynamic compensation" corrects bending accuracy in real time, delivering high-quality stable output. The unit is controlled by the ALL4ONE integrated central control system, enabling oneclick task dispatch and seamless connection to MES/ERP to support digital production. From standard profiles to non-standard custom parts, it flexibly adapts to high-mix, low-volume production scenarios, providing an efficient and accurate forming solution for the line.

3. Kitting Material Library
As an intelligent three-dimensional storage system, this library serves as the material hub and logistics scheduling core of the entire line.
The system adopts high-bay racking and integrates a warehouse management system (WMS) to achieve automated storage, information management, and precise traceability of raw materials, semi-finished, and finished goods. It can automatically execute material calling, picking, and delivery based on production orders, enabling just-in-time material flow between processes. While improving space utilization and inventory turnover efficiency, it ensures real-time synchronization between material information and production data, providing critical support for continuous, efficient, and flexible production.
